Twins, particularly identical twins, seem to enjoy a special communication gene that transcends voice or words. Valerie and Julie Rutter, the multi-talented musicians who are Gemini, are no exception – transfixing audiences with their uncanny ability to synchronize effortlessly their passionate, sensitive and joyful performances.
Gemini’s well-crafted performances include works for piano four-hands, flute and piano, recorder and piano, as well as flute and recorder. With a repertoire that spans six centuries, from Renaissance to Contemporary music, they interweave musical selections with informative notes and anecdotes.
British-born and now residents of the Sunshine Coast, Val and Julie have enjoyed extensive performing careers in Europe and North America, including as featured soloists with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and the Victoria and Edmonton Symphonies. Their first CD, Dances for Duo, was nominated for Best Classical Album in the West Coast Music Awards and their music is often featured on CBC radio.
